About Moxie Girl Musings

Moxie Girl Musings is about starting over from square one after tragedy impacted my young family. It's filled with stories of triumph, struggle, snafus, hopes, and dreams. Sometimes there will be features from other writers that I like and every so often I'll include an original short story, but normally I simply write what's on my mind at the time. Welcome to my unfiltered true-life story as I figure out this thing called life. http://www.amberleaeaston.com

Author Maer Wilson
Thank you for taking the time to stop by Moxie Girl Musings today, Maer. I'm excited to learn more about you and explore a bit about "Ghost Memory". Thanks for doing a giveaway, too. This is a win-win situation all around!

Thank you so very much for having me on your blog!

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing character bios for ages, but I only started writing novels about three years ago.

What inspires you?

I can get ideas from just about anywhere. Some little mundane thing can trigger an idea for me to incorporate into one of the stories or books.

Can you tell us a little bit about your newest release?

My newest is a short story prequel to my novel, Relics. The story is called “Ghost Memory” and takes place five years prior to the novel. It involves Thulu and La Fi taking the case of an amnesiac ghost who can’t remember where he hid the money he left his partner.

Who is your favorite character in this novel and why?

Well, I love Thulu and La Fi equally, but this gives us a younger La Fi and she is less confident than when we meet her in Relics. She and Thulu are finishing college and she is awkward here. Well, more so than normal anyway.

What comes first--characters or plot ideas?

Characters without a doubt. They have been telling me their stories for three years now.

How important is setting? Does it play an integral role in this story?

It does because we have the kind of Victorian house which I tend to associate with San Francisco. The house is almost a character in this story (but no dark entity haunting it). Instead it’s holding secrets that Thulu has to find.

What motivates your main characters?

In this story, they have a job to do for their ghost client. They also become friendly with and have some personal attachment to the client’s husband and want to protect him.

What is the central conflict?

As Thulu and La Fi work to find the money and other items that have been stashed in the house for decades, they discover that a good portion of the money is missing and they have to track that down.

What is your favorite aspect about being an author?

There are too many things to choose from. J I like almost everything from the creative process to meeting readers at events.

What draws you to this particular genre?

I love the idea of bringing the fantastic, supernatural and magical into our world, so contemporary fantasy is a natural fit for me.

Are there any other genres you can see yourself writing and why/why not?

Absolutely. I have a historical fantasy I’m working on that spans 550 years. I’d love to try a sci fi story at some point, too. Both are genres I love to read.

What’s your goal as an author? By that, I mean...why write? Why is it important to you?

I’d miss my characters horribly if I didn’t write about them. I love discovering what happens next to them and sharing those stories.

If you could snap your fingers and transport yourself anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

This answer would change depending on the day. J There are so many places I’d love to visit. Today, I think I’d go back to London. It’s a fascinating city and I barely scratched the surface exploring it on my last visit.

Tea or coffee?

Tea. The herbal kinds.

Night person or early riser?

Night. Definitely night. I don’t become human for a couple hours after I wake up.

Tell us 5 little known facts about yourself.
  1. Some might know that I’m a gamer - MMOs - and have been for about nine years. However, they might not know that I used to be a hard-core raider. Those are the players who take their gaming very seriously. These days I’m much more relaxed and casual, although I still raid a couple times a week.
  2. I have a fear of edges. Not heights, I’m fine with those, but even playing games I get vertigo if I have to cross narrow places. Edges make me very nervous, but surprisingly gaming has actually helped me to cope with situations in real life.
  3. I love gardenias, but I haven’t been able to grow them in the high desert where I live successfully.
  4. .       Sometimes, I go hiking with friends out in the desert. One time inspired a short story.
    5. When I really love a book or series, I’ll re-read them multiple times.
Thanks again, for letting me visit your blog, Amber!

Cover Blurb for “Ghost Memory”
By Maer Wilson

La Fi is not having a normal day. She broke someone’s nose, embarrassed her fiancé, Thulu, and now a dead guy is on her doorstep. Although seeing the dead is not unusual for the young medium, since she and Thulu regularly deal with the supernatural. Thulu can find anything that's lost and the amnesiac ghost is missing money, along with his memory.
Peter Swanson used to stash money throught his San Fancisco home. Now he can't remember his hiding places, and his aging partner needs the money. That's not normally a problem for Thulu, but some of the money is missing from the house. Thulu and La Fi must broaden the search for cash long gone, and that could prove tricky in more ways than one. "Ghost Memory is A Thulukan Chronicles Story set in the Relics Universe. Bonus material includes Chapter 1 from the novel Relics, Book 1 of the Thulukan Chronicals.
